# Best Santa's grottos in London 2026, from free to fancy

![](https://guides.thelondonscoop.com/logo.png)By **The London Scoop team**✓ Last updated 24 October 2026⏱ 13 min read

Somewhere in London this December, a man in a red suit is going to ask your child what they want for Christmas, and you'll find out at the same moment he does. These are the 11 grottos we'd book, from a free one in Hyde Park to a Victorian grotto in a Docklands museum, with a spread of areas, budgets and ages. All dates and prices come from each venue's own website, checked on 24 October 2026. The good slots go quickly, especially weekends, so book now and act surprised later.

## 🦊 Quick answer

- **Best free grotto:** [Hyde Park Winter Wonderland](https://guides.thelondonscoop.com/guides/santas-grottos-london-2026#winter-wonderland-grotto) (the grotto is free; entry tickets start at £1 off-peak) and [Christmas in the Park, SW19](https://guides.thelondonscoop.com/guides/santas-grottos-london-2026#christmas-in-the-park-sw19) (Sat 5 Dec, free)
- **Best value booked grotto:** [17&Central, Walthamstow](https://guides.thelondonscoop.com/guides/santas-grottos-london-2026#17-central-walthamstow) (£7 per child plus £1.50 booking fee) and [Southside Wandsworth](https://guides.thelondonscoop.com/guides/santas-grottos-london-2026#southside-wandsworth) (£7.50 plus £1.50)
- **Best for SEND families:** quiet sessions at [London Museum Docklands](https://guides.thelondonscoop.com/guides/santas-grottos-london-2026#london-museum-docklands-grotto) (9.45am and 10am)
- **Best big experience:** [the Queen's House](https://guides.thelondonscoop.com/guides/santas-grottos-london-2026#queens-house-greenwich), [Battersea Power Station's Santa's Workshop](https://guides.thelondonscoop.com/guides/santas-grottos-london-2026#battersea-power-station-santas-workshop) or [London Zoo](https://guides.thelondonscoop.com/guides/santas-grottos-london-2026#london-zoo-meet-santa)
- **Earliest start:** [17&Central](https://guides.thelondonscoop.com/guides/santas-grottos-london-2026#17-central-walthamstow) opens on Sat 7 Nov

**October 2026:** new guide. Not happening this year, according to the venues: Harrods has no grotto in 2026, and Brent Cross has a Santa's tea party rather than a grotto. Planning the rest of December? See [Christmas things to do with kids in London](https://guides.thelondonscoop.com/guides/christmas-things-to-do-london-kids-2026).

**How we chose:** grottos with confirmed 2026 dates on the venue's own website, a range of prices from free to a proper treat, and at least one option in every corner of London. We've noted what's included, because "Santa's grotto" can mean anything from five minutes and a selection box to an hour of elves.

## Central London

1Free

### Santa's Grotto at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

- 📍 Santa Land, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
- 🕘 Grotto 10am–6pm
- 🎟 Grotto free; event entry £1 off-peak, £5.50 standard, £8.25 peak
- 🎁 Gift for children

Billed as the largest free grotto in London, and it really is free once you're inside Winter Wonderland. Children get a gift, Mrs Claus waves from the balcony, and there are no age or height limits.

**Scoop tip:** Book an off-peak entry slot (listed at £1 per person) on a weekday, and go straight to the grotto before the queue builds. Spend £25 or more on rides or food in one advance order and your entry is free.

Honest parent details

The catch: everyone needs an entry ticket to Winter Wonderland itself, and you can't book a grotto slot. It's first come, first served, and the queue can close early if it gets too long.

#### The details

- **Opening hours:** Winter Wonderland opens at 10am on most days and later on some weekdays (as late as 2pm on 1 Dec). Check the date you're going.
- **Good to know:** Last entry to the event is 9.30pm, but the grotto runs 10am–6pm.

### Hamleys Regent Street

- 📍 Regent Street, W1: see official site for the address
- 🎟 Dates and prices TBC, check hamleys.com

London's best-known toy shop is a natural place to look for Santa, and meeting him surrounded by toys is the ultimate test of a child's restraint (and yours).

**Scoop tip:** If you do go, pair it with the Regent Street lights. The street goes traffic-free for the switch-on on Thu 5 Nov.

Honest parent details

We couldn't confirm 2026 dates, prices or age limits on Hamleys' own website, so treat this as one to check before you plan around it.

#### The details

- **Unverified:** 2026 details weren't available on hamleys.com when we checked.

### Meet Santa at London Zoo

- 📍 ZSL London Zoo, Outer Circle, NW1 4RY
- 🎟 Meet Santa £19.50 per child; zoo entry not included
- 🐧 Penguin Feed with Santa £40 child, £20 adult (age 3+)
- 👪 Up to 3 children and 2 free adults per booking

Santa meets the animals, and your child meets Santa. The standard session is about 30 minutes, with crafts and a gift, and the upgrade lets children help feed the penguins with the big man himself, which is a hard act for any parent to follow on 25 December.

**Scoop tip:** Book the first slot of the day, then do the zoo afterwards while everyone's still full of festive goodwill. The penguin feed takes about an hour and isn't suitable for children with seafood allergies.

Honest parent details

The grotto ticket doesn't include zoo entry, so budget for both. The relaxed standard sessions had already sold out when we checked.

#### The details

- **Dates:** London Zoo says Meet Santa runs in November and December; check the booking page for exact dates.
- **Good to know:** There's no VIP breakfast with Santa this year.

### Santa's Grotto at Alexandra Palace

- 📍 East Court, Alexandra Palace, N22 7AY
- 📅 4–23 Dec
- 🎟 £14 per child; each child ticket admits up to 2 adults
- 📸 Photo £15

A short, sweet grotto in Ally Pally's East Court: about five minutes with Santa and a small gift, for £14 per child with up to two adults included.

**Scoop tip:** Five minutes goes fast. Have your child's list ready, so they don't spend the whole visit staring silently at the beard.

Honest parent details

It's not an all-afternoon experience, but combine it with the Festive Skate on the ice rink next door (from 9 Dec) and you've got a proper day out.

#### The details

- **Photos:** A 6×4 photo is £15.

## East London

5Best value

### Santa's Grotto at 17&Central

- 📍 Centre Court, 17&Central, 45 Selborne Walk, E17 7JR
- 📅 Weekends from 7 Nov, extra weekdays into early Dec, daily 15–24 Dec
- 🎟 £7 per child + £1.50 booking fee, gift included

The best-value booked grotto in this guide, in Walthamstow's shopping centre near TK Maxx. Every child leaves with a gift, and the money supports Samaritans Waltham Forest.

**Scoop tip:** Book online for a set time at weekends; you can also book in person at the centre. Up to four children can go on one booking.

Honest parent details

It opens on Sat 7 Nov, which makes it the earliest on our list, for families who like to get Santa done before the rest of London has finished its pumpkin soup.

6

### Victorian Santa's Grotto at London Museum Docklands

- 📍 No.1 Warehouse, West India Quay, E14 4AL
- 🕘 Sessions every 15 minutes, 9.45am–4.15pm
- 🎟 From £15 per child; adults free
- 🧩 Quiet SEND sessions at 9.45am and 10am

A Dickensian-style grotto reached through the museum's Sailortown gallery, which beats a shopping centre atrium for atmosphere. Sessions take four children at a time, and the gifts are Victorian-style and low on plastic.

**Scoop tip:** Adults go free, so bring the grandparents. Make a morning of it and explore the museum afterwards.

Honest parent details

The 9.45am and 10am sessions are quieter, for children with special educational needs and disabilities. Photos are allowed, and there's a family cafe for the aftermath.

#### The details

- **Babies:** Babes in arms are free but don't get a present.

## South London

7

### Snow Queen and Santa at the Queen's House

- 📍 Queen's House, Royal Museums Greenwich, SE10
- 📅 Sat 14 Nov–Thu 24 Dec
- 🎟 £30 per person; members £27; under-1s free; +£3 booking fee
- 👶 Ages 2–9; sessions up to 45 minutes

The most theatrical grotto on this list: an actor-led Snow Queen story in one of the most beautiful buildings in London, followed by a private meet-and-greet with Santa and a gift. Sessions last up to 45 minutes. It's a proper treat, and it's priced like one.

**Scoop tip:** Note the price is per person, adults included, so a family of four is £120 plus the booking fee. A weekday after school is the easiest way to get a slot. There's an ice rink outside, too.

Honest parent details

It's open every weekend from 14 November plus selected weekdays. December weekends were already low on availability and all four relaxed SEND sessions had sold out when we checked, so book soon.

#### The details

- **Booking fee:** £3 per transaction, not per ticket.
- **Buggies:** Prams aren't allowed inside; there's a buggy park.
- **Adults:** Maximum two adults per child, and every adult needs a ticket.

8New for 2026

### Santa's Workshop at Battersea Power Station

- 📍 Battersea Power Station, SW11
- 📅 27 Nov–24 Dec
- 🎟 From £16.50
- ✨ New for 2026

New for 2026: an immersive workshop where children solve puzzles in Santa's Post Room and Toy Workshop before a private family visit with the man himself. It sounds like an escape room for elves, which is a compliment.

**Scoop tip:** Battersea Power Station has lots more going on this season, including the Glide ice rink from Fri 6 Nov and a Santa abseil on Sun 22 Nov, so it's easy to fill an afternoon.

Honest parent details

Age guidance wasn't published when we checked, so look at the booking page before you take a toddler.

#### The details

- **Unverified:** Age guidance TBC, check the official site.

- 📅 Fri 20 Nov–Thu 24 Dec (closed Mon 7 Dec)
- 🎟 £7.50 per child + £1.50 booking fee; adults free
- 👪 Up to 4 children per slot; buggy-friendly

A good-value grotto in a new spot outside Waitrose, with up to four children per slot, so siblings and cousins can go in together. It's cashless, buggy-friendly and walk-ins are welcome if there's space.

**Scoop tip:** Booking online is the safer bet at weekends. Phone 020 8870 2141 if you have questions about access.

Honest parent details

Hours vary by day (for example, 10am–6pm on Saturdays and 11am–5pm on Sundays), with late openings until 7pm on Thu 3 and Fri 4 Dec and an early finish at 3pm on Christmas Eve.

10Free

### Christmas in the Park, Haydons Road

- 📍 Haydons Road Recreation Ground, SW19 1AN
- 📅 Sat 5 Dec, 1–7pm
- 🎟 Free

A free community Christmas fair with Santa, crafts in Santa's Workshop, choirs and a market, organised by Somnium London Events CIC. It's one afternoon only, which makes it more of an event than a grotto.

**Scoop tip:** Get there early in the grotto window. Free Santa plus a choir is a combination that tends to draw a crowd.

Honest parent details

The organiser's Eventbrite listing says the grotto runs from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, with untimed free registration.

## West London

11

### Santa's Secret Village at Hobbledown Heath

- 📍 Hobbledown Heath, Hounslow
- 📅 28 Nov–24 Dec
- 🎟 Grotto (5+) from £30; Toddler Santa Experience (up to 5) from £25; adults from £14.40
- 🎠 Includes park admission

The only grotto in this guide that's split by age: an hour-long grotto experience for over-5s, and a shorter Toddler Santa Experience (about 40 minutes) for under-5s, which is about as long as most toddlers can be trusted near reindeer.

**Scoop tip:** Book the early-bird rate while it lasts and wrap up warm: much of the day is outdoors. Parking is charged.

Honest parent details

Both include full admission to the adventure park, so you can stay all day. Early-bird prices are lower: £27 for the grotto, £22.50 for the toddler experience and £13.50 for adults.

## Grotto survival tips

- **Book now.** December weekends go first. A weekday after school is the easiest way to get a slot.
- **Check what's included.** Some prices cover the whole family, some are per child, and the Queen's House is per person.
- **Pre-brief the list.** Nerves strike. Agree one or two wishes in advance so nobody freezes, or asks for a pony.
- **Feed them first.** A queue is twice as long on an empty stomach.
- **Look for quiet sessions.** London Museum Docklands runs SEND sessions, and others may too, so ask when you book.
